It's all about 808
808 Shave Ice first opened in Fairview Park, OH in June 2017. Locally owned, operated, and founded, 808 is a Northeast Ohio staple with locations in Avon, Beachwood, Fairview Park, Strongsville, and the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo. Additionally, we offer catering via our mobile carts and food truck.
From day one, our focus has been simple: people and product. That means premium ingredients, attention to detail, a focus on customer service, and ice that’s actually shaved -- never crushed. Over time, our menu has evolved to include food options and specialty desserts / beverages.

What does "808" mean or stand for?
Ahh. The #1 question we get asked! Well, let's keep it simple. 808 represents a feeling. A style. That laid back, do things differently kind of attitude. It's just a number that we really like!
How is shave ice different from a snow cone? Also why "shave" -- why not "shaved"?
We don't serve your typical snow cone. If you're looking for a crunchy ball of ice, you won't find it at 808. The typical "shaved ice" companies that you may know of take bags of ice cubes and crush them in a machine, yielding what's typically recognized as a child's snow cone. At 808, we actually shave ice. It starts with the fact that our shave ice is made from 8 pound blocks of ice that we make / freeze ourselves, in house, 24 hours per day. We then use special shaving machines imported from Japan that slice thin strips of ice off the block and into your cup. This leads to the softest, fluffiest texture possible. We finish the ice off with our flavors that are imported from Hawaii and blended into syrups (also in house) -- using only pure cane sugar, and never any high fructose corn syrup or preservatives. As for "shave" vs. "shaved" -- well, we just have that "do things differently" kind of attitude.
Is 808 Shave Ice a franchise?
808 is not a franchise. It's a family business that employs over 100 individuals during peak summer season. When spending money at 808, your dollars are being reinvested into the local community!
What's up with all the colored syrups?! It's 2026!
We truly have something for everyone! 808 offers a variety of dye-free syrup flavors for those who want to avoid artificial colorings. As alternative options become available, 808 will pioneer bringing the best possible flavors to our community!
Are you peanut free? What about other allergens?
Our shave ice is dairy-free, gluten-free, soy-free, and vegan when enjoyed without add-ons or toppings. Generally speaking, our Avon, Strongsville, and Zoo locations do not knowingly serve or offer products that contain peanuts. However, some of our suppliers manufacture products on shared equipment or in shared facilities. Our Beachwood and Fairview Park concession stands do offer pre-packaged peanut containing products.
Please be aware that all items are prepared in environments where milk, soy, nuts, and other common allergens may be present. Due to shared equipment and preparation areas, we cannot guarantee that any product is completely free from allergens.
Guests with food allergies or sensitivities should use their discretion and speak directly with the cashier before ordering. While we always do our best to minimize cross-contact and reduce risk, we cannot eliminate the possibility of allergen exposure.
I'm bringing a large group to 808. Can we get a discount?
First, we thank everyone that wants to gather at 808! We do not offer group discounts, however, by notifying us via our contact form ahead of time about your visit, we can attempt to better staff our shop to serve your group quicker and more efficiently. We see this often with large teams or daycares visiting together.
Do you offer kosher-friendly options at your Beachwood location?
In an effort to be fully transparent and allow customers to make dietary decisions that are best for them, we must note that our kitchen is not a kosher certified facility and all items are prepared in the shared space. We do, however, use kosher certified ingredients in many of the items we offer and try to use dedicated equipment whenever possible.
Factory-sealed items with kosher certification may include: most of our prepackaged ice cream products, excluding Spiderman and Spongebob bars; bottled beverages; most bagged chips and candies; and our PB&J Uncrustables.
Items made with kosher certified ingredients include: our fresh and frozen lemonades (without any flavors or extras added); Hebrew National hot dogs along with the condiments / toppings of ketchup, mustard, relish, fresh onions, and jalapeños; 808 Milkshakes; and our Soft Pretzels.
We currently have nine shave ice / slush flavors that are made with kosher-certified ingredients. Those flavors include: Banana, Blue Raspberry, Cherry, Chocolate, Cotton Candy, Fresh Lemon, Fresh Lime, Grape, and Pina Colada. If you would like these flavors on your ice / slush / lemonade / frozen lemonade, please notify your cashier. Please note that the raw ingredients used to make the flavors above are kosher-certified, but ultimately they are mixed in house in a non-certified kitchen. We do use dedicated blender pitchers for items containing kosher ingredients, but due to health code regulations and equipment available to us, they are washed in a shared commercial sink.
Our soft pretzels arrive pre-packaged and certified kosher from their manufacturer, but must be "cut open" to vent during the heating process. They are heated in ovens that are also used for non-kosher items.
